Robert and Melanie

"According to Tibetan tantric teachings, all of the colors you see are the colors of prana - of vital life force. These flow within us and around us. And like all things manifest, we are comprised of the gross and subtle manifestations of this life force. And the most subtle aspect of this life force is what flows through what is known in both Indian and Tibetan systems as the
Chakras.
Our attraction, aversion, or indifference to various colors reflects the nature of our body-mind
system and the state of the Chakras and whether they are more open or closed. Beyond using colors for our overall sense of health and
well-being, if we are to become the spiritual beings that we have the potential to become, the
Chakras are the subtle energy vortices that we must learn to open if we are to awaken to our full enlightened potential. And here, visualization of colors as well as the use of precious and semi-precious stones can be of great assistance.
In their contribution to the Color Alchemy Web Conference, authors and educators, Melanie and Robert Sachs, will share the
perspective of both the Indian and Tibetan traditions of Ayurveda and the Tibetan Buddhist approach to the
Chakras, and how specific semi-precious stones of five hues, green, yellow, blue, red, and white can be used to support us overcoming the emotional blocks and resistance to the awakening of different levels of awareness and wisdom. As healers and spa
educators, Melanie and Robert also teach a Tibetan Chakra stone massage for self healing and the healing of others."

About:
 |
Melanie and Robert Sachs' background is both conventional and "alternative". Melanie was trained as an occupational therapist in England and Robert is a licensed social worker. Their interest in alternative approaches began with their involvement with macrobiotics in the 1970's. |
They were founding members of the Growing Family Center at the East West Foundation in London, England before the couple came to the United States to connect more closely with Tibetan Buddhist tradition in up state New York. They deepened their studies in alternative approaches to health in Columbus, Ohio then moved again in the 80's to work in one of the first holistic clinics in the US with one of the founding members of the American Holistic Medical Association, Dr. Walt Stoll. In 1984 Melanie met her first Ayurvedic teacher Dr. Vasant Lad and after Robert graduated with an M.A in Social Work the couple relocated to New Mexico to study Ayurveda where they were first students then writers.
Robert's second book combined his interest in Ayurveda and Tibetan medicine, the study of which had grown under hist tutelage with Tibetan doctor, Lobsang Rapgay. Tibetan Ayurveda was published in 1995 with a second edition in 2001. It was the first time traditional Tibetan medicine had been presented in a western holistic frame work. Melanie published her first book Ayurvedic Beauty Care in 1994. It is now considered a must for those seriously interested in natural and conscious body care.
Since the late 90's Melanie and Robert have worked together to co-create Diamond Way Ayurveda, a company devoted to preserving and promoting both Indian and Tibetan body care techniques. Together they offer classes, design equipment and formulate spa products to support the ancient techniques they teach. In the fall of 2007 they published Ayurvedic Spa with Lotus Press, a work that is already considered a classic. The book describes in detail all the main Ayurvedic Spa and Rejuvenation treatments including techniques for full body massage with customized aromatic oils and the exotic Shirodhara - anointing the head with warm oil for unusually deep relaxation and renewal. Each techniques is thoroughly explained in words and pictures with a description of how the technique can be used both in the spa and at home.
